Who we are and what we stand for...

CrossForce ©Karate Ministries began in 1995 as the pilot program for the Recreation Outreach Ministry here at First Baptist Church. For 13 years, CrossForce© has been teaching sport karate classes and leading Bible studies here at First Baptist on Tuesday nights.The Sons of Thunder© Karate Evangelism Team also began in 1995. The team has performed karate shows and held seminars all over North Alabama and in South Carolina.


About Our Instructors

Jim Anderson is the Head Instructor for CrossForce©. He is a 5th Degree Black Belt and has been an Instructor since 1980. He ranked to 2nd Degree Black Belt under the late Wilburn King, and has ranked to 5th Degree under Dr. Andy Wisner of Madison, AL. Mr. Anderson began the karate program for Auburn University’s Continuing Education Program in 1981 while attending Auburn. He owned and operated Anderson’s Karate Studio in Auburn, AL. He has competed in both local and national tournaments. He has been the Alabama State Champion in forms and sparring. He is ranked in Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, and Shin Nigare. Mr. Anderson holds the rank of Renshi Sho, which is an Instructor ranking with honors. This rank was awarded to him by the late Professor and Grand Master Leo Wilson of Las Vegas, Nevada, founder of Midori Yama Budokai (which means “Green Mountain Martial Arts Association”). He is a 7th grade boy’s Sunday School teacher and Student Ministry leader at First Baptist.

Kathy Anderson is a 4th Degree Black Belt. She is ranked in Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, and Shin Nigari. She is also ranked in Joe Corley’s American Karate. She has been an Instructor since 1992. In the past, she competed in tournaments in GA., AL., and FL., including the U.S. Open. Currently, she is a home school mom/teacher, 7th grade girl’s Sunday School teacher and Student Ministry leader at FBC. and the Secondary Education Administrator for River City Christian Academy at FBC.

Zack Anderson is an Assistant Instructor and 2nd Degree Black Belt. He is ranked in Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do and Shin Nigari. He began karate at the age of 4 and has competed in Alabama karate tournaments. Zack is on the Sons of Thunder© Karate Team. He is a Freshman at Calhoun Community College where he is pursuing a Business Degree. He is very active in the Student Ministry here at FBC.

Heather Anderson and Craig Anderson are also leaders at CrossForce©. Heather is a 2nd Degree Black Belt and she is a Theatre major at Calhoun. . Craig is 1st Degree Black Belt and is a Freshman at River City Christian Academy. Heather and Craig have both competed in Alabama karate tournaments and are on the Sons of Thunder© Karate Team.
The Andersons have been members at First Baptist Church since January 1987.


About Our Karate

CrossForce© students are ranked in Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do. Our classes also include Hapkido self-defense techniques (in the Adult classes) and many of the Black Belt forms from Shin Nigari, and the World Tae Kwon Do Federation. All of our Instructors, Assistant Instructors, and assistants have ranked to Black Belt at CrossForce©.

Our classes are taught in a family friendly atmosphere. Students are encouraged to strive to achieve their own personal best at each level. Each of our CrossForce© classes includes a Bible study and prayer time which is the heartbeat of each CrossForce© class.
